Tea Rituals by Gonggi
ARJ is delighted to host Yeojin, founder of Gonggi, for a special tea class exploring the mindful art of tea. Gonggi is known for its curated selection of premium Korean, Chinese, and Taiwanese teas, as well as its unique approach to tea as a meditative practice.
In this hands-on session, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of Oriental tea culture—its varieties, preparation methods, and calming rituals. Experience the deep connection between taste, rest, healing, and breath, guided by traditions passed down for generations.
As a bonus, you’ll also discover natural tea substitutes and enjoy a brief breathing practice inspired by the Gonggi method.

What you’ll do
Welcome & Introduction (15 minutes)
- Explanation of tea types (characteristics of the tea plant and the six main categories of tea)
- Understanding how tea is processed and how different methods affect the type, characteristics, and health benefits of tea
- Why the pairing between tea and teaware is important
Main Session (50 minutes)
- Guided Tea Tasting - Serve green tea with traditional sweets
- Hands-On Brewing with Gaiwan
- Learn and practice brewing with a Gaiwan
- Explore aroma and flavor through self-preparation
- Compare two cups to observe how teaware impacts taste
- Share tea with a neighbor and discover brewing variations
- Taste and compare first, second, and third infusions
Gonggi Ritual Teaser (10 Minutes)
- Tea Meditation (5 min) – Featuring premium Taiwanese Oolong “Huanglong Cha”
A short guided practice in mindful breathing with tea, offering a calming introduction to the meditative essence of the Gonggi ritual.
What’s included
All teas, sweets, and tasting tools will be provided by Gonggi and ARJ. Teas can be sold after the workshop.
Cancellation policy
Due to the limited seating, all sales are final and non refundable. If you notify us at least 72 hours before the workshop, we will provide a store credit for the registration amount to use toward ARJ merchandise purchases. To cancel and request a credit, email us at help@arj.la. Please note that we are unable to honor reschedule requests with less than 72 hours advance notice.
