Kei Condo
Kei Condo was born in 1981 in Kasama City, Japan, a region known for its deep-rooted ceramic heritage. His roots extend to Ethiopia, from where his father emigrated before discovering a passion for pottery in Kasama. Condo established his independent workshop in 2010, rooting his practice in the Kasama-yaki tradition, one of the oldest pottery styles in the Kanto region. Working with the region's durable, iron-rich clay, he developed his distinctive yellow tones through years of experimentation with glazes, firing temperatures, and technique.
Condo's philosophy centers on tableware as a backdrop that allows food to come alive. His warm, sun-like ceramics are designed for everyday use, inviting moments that ask us to slow down and look. Timeless and quietly enduring, his work has earned international recognition and has been featured at Noma Kyoto in 2023, as well as at renowned restaurants and hotels worldwide.
