MANABU AKAMINE (赤嶺学)
Manabu Akamine, born in Okinawa in 1968, graduated in 1993 from the Department of Design and Crafts, specializing in ceramics, at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. Based in Okinawa, Akamine has showcased his work in exhibitions across Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka, and Aichi. Notable recognitions include selections for the Asahi Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition, the Asahi Ceramics Exhibition, and the Kanazawa Wan-One Grand Prize 2006 Excellence Award.
Akamine’s creations, from interior objects to sculptures, evoke the natural process of dry soil being moistened, encouraging plant life. When grouped together, his works resemble urban buildings under the heat of the sun, towering forest trees, or islands emerging from the sea.
