Taiga Oku
Taiga Oku
Born in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, in 1986, Taiga Oku studied glass at Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts before refining his craft at Kurokabe Glass Studio, where he became chief of its blow studio. In 2022, he established his own studio in Takamatsu, Japan. Oku approaches glassmaking through a deep command of technique, pursuing clean lines and beautifully resolved forms that bring a quiet sense of occasion to everyday life.
Working primarily in transparent blown glass, Oku carefully controls proportion, weight, and thickness in every piece. Delicately thinned rims create a graceful drinking experience, while substantial bases and precisely balanced stems make his vessels reassuring to hold and use. Whether entirely clear or finished with a restrained touch of gold, his glasses and vessels feel visually light yet grounded, refined yet warmly handmade.
