Description
The spouted bowl is a handcrafted Tokoname ceramic by Koji Sugie, a member of the Tokoname City Ceramic Artists Association in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Tokoname is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, with a pottery tradition dating back to the 12th century and historically the largest production area among them.
Sugie works exclusively with Tokoname clay and wood-fired kiln firing, a commitment that produces surfaces shaped entirely by flame, ash, and heat rather than by glaze or pigment. The result is a warm, earthy body marked by deep russet tones and flashes of metallic sheen where the fire has left its mark.
