DETAILS

Crafted from hanjiki, a semi-porcelain clay body, this piece showcases Ryuta Fukumura's signature silver glazed - smooth, lustrous, and subtly cratered like the surface of the moon. Repeated low-temperature firings bring out atmospheric textures unique to hanjiki, giving the work a quiet depth that reveals itself over time.

DELIVERY This is a one-of-a-kind piece and will not be restocked once sold out.

ABOUT Ryuta Fukumura 福村 龍太

Ryuta Fukumura, born in 1989, is a ceramic artist based in Ukiha in Fukuoka Prefecture in southern Japan. As the second generation of Nichigetsu Kiln, he grew up immersed in the processes of digging soil, preparing clay, and tending the fire, experiences that continue to shape his work today. He is also a practitioner of tea ceremony and flower arrangement, traditions that inform his approach to ceramics.

Fukumura creates ceramics using locally sourced materials, refined by hand and fired in a traditional log-burning Nobori-gama (climbing kiln). Minerals, natural ash, and silver glazes interact in the kiln to produce textures and tones that highlight subtle irregularities and the beauty of chance.

His recent work reflects both local tradition and contemporary influence, including techniques inspired by time spent in New York. Across all of his pieces, Fukumura emphasizes the natural character of the clay while exploring new possibilities in form and surface.
