About Sayaka Wakaiki

Working from Awaji Island in western Japan, Sayaka Wakaiki creates ceramics that feel as though they have been shaped by the landscape itself. She studied traditional ceramics in Kyoto before refining her craft in Tamba, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns. She later established her independent practice, bringing this traditional foundation to a quiet and contemporary body of work.

Inspired by stones, seeds and other organic forms, Wakaiki preserves the tactile character of clay through earthy surfaces, softened silhouettes and subtle irregularities. Each piece is formed individually by hand, giving it a presence all its own. Her vessels and incense holders bring a sense of discovery, warmth and calm to everyday rituals.
