Hiromi Sato created Sora COCORO (宙COCORO, meaning "Sky Heart" or "Cosmos Heart") using maki-e, a technique of sprinkling metallic powder onto wet lacquer to create decorative designs. Using astronomy references, Sato hand-places each constellation and celestial body with sharpened toothpicks, applying lacquer and gold powder to a stainless steel base.
The lacquer is fired in a specialized baking process, creating water-resistant, durable pieces. When filled with liquid, the cups reveal shimmering, galaxy-like patterns that evoke the vastness of the cosmos.

Care
- Hand wash only with neutral detergent and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, scouring pads, cleansers, and cleaning powders, which can scratch the surface. Dry thoroughly before storing to prevent white mineral deposits from forming.
- Not microwave safe. Do not use on direct heat such as in an oven or on a gas stove.
- Do not use chlorine-based or oxygen-based bleach.
- Stainless steel is resistant to rust, but avoid storing in contact with other metals (such as iron or aluminum) or in humid environments, as this may lead to corrosion.
- The colors are coat by baking, making the decoration highly durable and water-resistant. However, the oxide coating may be scratched if rubbed with sharp or hard objects.

About Hiromi Sato 佐藤 裕美
Hiromi Sato is the sixth-generation successor of Hayashi Butsudanten, a Buddhist altar workshop in Niigata that has been crafting sacred objects since 1830. She comes from a family of certified traditional craftspeople: her father is a master lacquer artisan, and both she and her mother practice maki-e (a traditional technique of sprinkling metallic powder onto wet lacquer to create decorative designs).
Drawing on techniques honed over generations in Buddhist altar making, Sato created Sora COCORO ("Sky Heart"). Using astronomy references, Sato hand-places each constellation and celestial body with sharpened toothpicks. When filled with sake, the cups reveal shimmering, galaxy-like patterns that evoke the vastness of the cosmos.
