The inside is coated with a matte black iron glaze. On the surface, two types of glaze—each mixed with coarse sand—are brushed on in layers, much like painting on canvas. A final layer of black iron glaze is then applied to create a raised, textured surface. These multiple layers result in a rich, complex texture.
While there is no water leakage, the use of coarse clay may cause slight water staining if water is left inside for several days—particularly at first. However, if this occurs, it will eventually stop.

ABOUT YUKO IKEDA (池田優子)
Yuko Ikeda, a graphic design graduate from Platt College in San Diego, began teaching herself ceramics after returning to Japan. Now based in Osaka, she focuses on solo exhibitions where her work blends fluid, expressive lines with the colors and textures of natural elements. Her creations evoke the essence of abstract paintings that unfold like landscapes, blurring the boundary between functional ceramics and art. Her work is primarily inspired by nature, drawing influence from the sea, shells, flowers, leaves, and snow.
