Hiromi Sato (佐藤 裕美)
Hiromi Sato is a traditional Japanese artisan from Niigata, known for her handcrafted sake cups called Sora COCORO (“Sky Heart”). Made from stainless steel, lacquer, and gold dust, these cups reveal shimmering, galaxy-like patterns when filled with sake—evoking the vastness of the cosmos.
Sato comes from a family of certified traditional craftspeople: her father is a lacquer artisan, and both she and her mother are maki-e artists. They apply techniques used in crafting Buddhist altars to create everyday items that blend beauty with function.
Each Sora COCORO cup is handmade, with no two exactly alike, and has gained global recognition for its captivating design and craftsmanship.
