As one of the leading figures in the French design scene, Pierre Charpin has an extensive portfolio of product and furniture design for leading international design brands. He created the PC Outline series for 1616 / arita japan in 2018 with a particular focus on the relationship between form and decoration. Rather than applying pattern to a finished shape, the forms and decorations were designed together simultaneously, a rare and deliberate choice that gives each piece a sense of quiet coherence.

The result is a simple motif of gradual shading along the edge of each piece, framing a zone of pure whiteness at the center that serves as an immaculate canvas to welcome any dish. A series of six large platters was later added to the collection, featuring hand-painted decoration based on Charpin's "Arabesques" drawing series. Each piece is handcrafted in Arita from glazed white porcelain made with clay from crushed stone, the distinctive local material at the heart of Arita's ceramic tradition.
