DETAILS

1616 / arita japan presents the Tea Cup and Hojicha Cup—timeless designs by Danish ceramicist Richard Manz. Merging the clarity of Scandinavian design with the precision of Japanese craftsmanship, these vessels embody Manz’s enduring vision for thoughtful, everyday objects. Offered in both glazed and partially unglazed finishes, they reflect a quiet elegance that remains relevant across generations.

Richard Manz (b. 1933, Esslingen, Germany) was trained in pottery and tile making before joining Gustavsberg Porcelain in Sweden (1956–1965). In 1966, he moved to Denmark and established a studio with his wife, renowned ceramist Bodil Manz. His work is celebrated for its understated refinement and timeless functionality.

ABOUT 1616 / Manz Contour

Originally designed in the 1960s by Danish ceramicist Richard Manz, the Manz Collection has been thoughtfully revived by 1616 / Arita Japan. These vessels reflect a quiet harmony between Scandinavian minimalism and Japanese porcelain craftsmanship.

The Manz Tea Cup and Hojicha Cup embody Manz’s vision for everyday objects that are both functional and enduring. With their balanced forms and subtle finishes—glazed or partially unglazed—they highlight the tactile clarity and timeless elegance of Arita porcelain.

Part of 1616 / Arita Japan’s mission to reimagine traditional craft through a global lens, the Manz Collection bridges past and present with refined simplicity.
